To ensure the ship's safety and appropriateness, certification for a Class Maintenance Certificate (CMC) is required. A Class Maintenance Certificate (CMC) is a declaration that verifies a ship's class is valid for the duration that the ship owner has specified in the BKI registry.

The only body authorized by the Indonesian government to issue CMCs is BKI. This letter is an official statement from BKI verifying the legality of the registered ship, and it can be used for a variety of purposes such as accident claims, buying/selling, scrapping, and meeting insurance administration requirements.
